The Guardian Building is a unique Detroit landmark that is very high on the visitor highlights of Detroit. It was designed by the up and coming architect Wirt Rowling in 1926. Wirt left Albert Kahn to make his own name and he did by joining Smith, Hinchman and Grills which is to today The Smith Group. It was financed and owned by the Union Trust Company.

The building has a unique architecture of colorful tile and masonry. The building does not lend itself to words; you have to see it for yourself. You will not believe your eyes! The lobby is spectacular with high ceilings and a map of Michigan. The building was renovated in 2006.

The building contains the Wayne County Commission chambers. Detroit Economic Growth Corporation and the law office of Sanford Schulman.
